What can you expect to experience with The Connected Voice Vocal Studio?

  • Our first lesson will involve using “diagnostic” techniques to determine your unique “vocal defaults”, or what we refer to as a student’s “Tends To’s” (ie: This voice tends to sound breathy and quiet)
  • The student will be asked for a “vocal history”:  singing experience (or lack thereof), any vocal damage and preferred styles of music interest will be important in the initial assessment.  The singer will also be asked to talk about their own frustrations with their voice and what areas they would like to see improvement in and/or long and short-term goals they would like to work towards.
  • After the initial diagnosis a lesson plan will be developed and you will be given a clear synopsis on what needs we will be addressing
  • A student should expect to experience various exercises designed to replace their own unique “tends to’s” with a feeling of balance and ease.
  • Improvement should be experienced immediately within the first lesson, though, of course the degree of improvement depends on how deeply a student’s voice is entrenched in unbalanced vocal practices.  Some students can feel like a miracle has happened in their first 30 minutes while others may feel that “miracle” over a year of study.
  • Once a reasonable level of balance is consistently obtained by the student the success found through the exercises is then transferred to songs
  • At the end of your lesson you will be given a CD recording so that you can work on your unique vocal plan until our next meeting
